Shozo Toda was born in 1885 in Hyogo, Japan.
He graduated from Medical Department of Kyoto University (1910). Shozo Toda became assistant at Medical Department of Kyoto University and then studied for four years in Germany, England and France (from 1912). Promoted to professor (1916).
Shozo Toda appointed dean of Medical Department of the above university and president of Osaka Koto Igaku Semmon Gakko (Osaka Higher Medical College) and director of Hokenkyoku (Public Health Bureau) of Tokyo Municipal Government. Retired under age limit (1945) and then was appointed emeritus professor of Kyoto University and president, Nihon Iryo-dan (Japan Medical Service). Served then as president of Kanazawa University (1949-1953).
Held additional posts of member of Japan Science Council and member of Kagaku Gijutsu Gyosei Kyogikai (Scientific Technique Administration Council).
