Career

Gongsun Shu Qi influenced her husband and helped him to make an important decision. The fact is that after the death of Wang Mang, Liu Xuan, a member of the ruling Liu clan, established the Gengshi regime. Gongsun Shu Qi's husband defeated the troops of Liu Xuan, which were stationed in the region of Yizhou and decided to establish an independent regime in Yizhou, making the city of Chengdu his capital.

However, Gongsun Shu was not sure whether he should declare himself emperor, believing in the divine right of emperors and doubting his own nobility. He had a dream that he would be an emperor for twelve years. He told Gongsun Shu Qi about it. She persuaded her husband that twelve years is great and he definitely should declare himself emperor.

Thus in 25 Gongsun Shu declared himself Emperor of Chengjia (the House of Cheng), deriving the name from his capital, Chengdu.
