Shukaku Hosshinno became a disciple of Priest Prince Kakusho Hosshinno of the Ninnaji Temple. Succeeded Kakusho as Priest Prince of the temple in 1169. Supervised the Enyiiji and other noted temples.
A calligrapher of note, he founded the Hokuinryii and Sambomryu schools of calligraphy. Wrote more than 100 volumes of books.
