Shukichi Tamai was born in 1879 Kobe, Japan.
Shukichi Tamai began life in the employ of a firm called Ginzaburo Yamashita at Yokohama (1903) and was later promoted as director of the Tokyo branch.
When the Yamashita Steamship Company was formed (1912) he became one of the directors and chief manager of the Tokyo Office. He was concurrently also auditor of the Tokai Transportation Company.
In 1925 he left the steamship company and founded the Hokkaido Coal Mining Company being its managing director. Founded the Chugai Commercial Corporation (1929) to become its president.
