Shukyu was a Buddhist priest of the Rinzai Sect and founder of the Buttsiiji Temple in Aki Province (Hiroshima Prefecture).
Shukyu was born in 1329.
He was initiated into priesthood by Priest Muso Kokushi of the Rinsenji Temple at the age of 12. Studied under Shun-oku Myoha. After studying on Mount Hiei and at the Kenninji Temple he went to China (Yuan Dynasty) and met high Chinese priests including Yuehkiang and Chisiu. Returned at Hakata in 1351.
Haruhira Kohayagawa built the Buttsiiji Temple and made Shiikyii its founder (1395). Shogun Yoshimochi Ashikaga was among his followers. The Court granted him a purple robe, symbol of the highest Buddhist rank.
