Shulamith Kreitler is an Israeli educator and author. She is a professor of psychology at Tel Aviv University.

Background

Kreitler was born on July 3, 1938 in Tel-Aviv, Israel; the daughter of Aharon and Luba Elblinger.

Education

Kreitler received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bar Ilan University in 1960. A year later she earned her Master of Arts degree. In 1964, Shulamith was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Bern University.

Career

Kreitler began her teaching career at Tel Aviv University in 1962. Since 1986 she has served as a professor of psychology at the same university. In 1995, she established the psychooncology unit at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov), where she worked as its head until 2007. Since 2007 Shulamith has been a head of the Psychooncology Research Center at the Sheba Medical Center. In addition, she has taught at the Nursing Department in hospitals and at the University of Haifa.

Achievements

  • Kreitler has developed a new approach to meaning, to predicting and changing behavior and identifying psychological risk factors for cancer. She has published over 200 articles and 18 scientific books.
