Shuntai was born in 1798 in Owari Province (Aichi Prefecture). His common name was Nihe.
Shuntai made pottery at the Fukai Kiln of the Owari Clan (Aichi Prefecture) from the Tempo until early Meiji eras. He was allowed to wear a sword and given a fief.
In 1848, he retired and made his eldest son, Kotaro, the family head. He then made pottery at Imao in Mino Province (Gifu Prefecture) and made porcelain ware at Kawana (Aichi Prefecture) which were inscribed with the name Shunraku.
