Shunzo Yanagawa entered the services of the Shogunate in 1856. Shortly after the Meiji Restoration began publishing a magazine titled Seiyo Zasshi (Western Magazine) and a newspaper Chugai Shimbun (1868). This was the beginning of the magazine and newspaper business in this country. Later was asked to investigate the school system, but his counsel was not heeded to as he had previously served the Shogun.
