He was trained by Geki Satsuma, a disciple of Satsumadayu II whose master was Joun Satsuma, the founder of Edo joruri. When Danjuro Ichikawa II appeared in Yanone Goro at the Nakamuraza Theater (1729), Shuzendayu recited its narrative in a new style, which was very well received. He subsequently recited also at the Kawarazakiza and Ichimuraza kabuki theaters.
