Amaral was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 13, 1973.
Between 1991 and 1998 Sidney Amaral studied painting and drawing with Professor Pedro Alzaga at the Lyceum of Arts and Crafts, São Paulo. Later he studied drawing and watercolor in high school art and craft of São Paulo. He was also a student listener in a contemporary sculpture course at the University of Campinas-UNICAMP under the orientation of Professor Marcos Valle. Amaral received his degree in fine arts in 1998 from Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation, São Paulo (Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado or FAAP). Amaral was a student of the artist Ana Maria Tavares in the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture (MUBE), where he studied academic painting and photography from 1999 to 2000.
In 2001 Amaral had his solo exhibit for the first time at the III Exhibition, which was held in São Paulo Cultural Center, or CCSP (São Paulo, Brazil). Since 2000 Amaral also participated in various collective exhibitions held in such spaces as Centro Cultural São Paulo (São Paulo, 2001), Oscar Niemayer Museum (Curitiba, 2005), Afro Brasil Museum and Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (Salvador, 2006), Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro, 2006).
Sidney Amaral resumed to exhibit individually in 2008, presenting his works at the Casa do Olhar Luiz Sacilotto (Santo André, Brazil). In 2010 he had three more shows of his own. The first one was organized at the Afro-Brazilian Cultural Center (São Carlos, Brazil). The second, titled "Work in Progress", comprised of an installation in the Odete dos Santos building (São Carlos, Brazil). The third was held at the Pinacoteca of São Bernardo do Campo (São Bernardo do Campo, SP, Brazil).
During his later years, he was working with bronze sculpture and marble, and also painted in acrylic and watercolour. Sidney Amaral was also a teacher. In January 2017, an incurable cancer tumor in the pancreas was detected. He underwent treatment for his disease, trying to prolong his life and reduce pain. However, it didn't have the desired effect.
