Cope was a left-handed batsman who bowled left-arm fast. Cope made a single first-class appearance for Kent against Gloucestershire in the 1924 County Championship at Mote Park, Maidstone. Kent responded in their first-innings by making 295 all out, during which Cope was dismissed for a duck by George Dennett.
Gloucestershire then made 92 all out in their second-innings, setting Kent a target of 11 for victory, which Kent reached for the loss of two wickets.
This was his only major appearance for Kent. He died at Dartford, Kent, on 14 April 1986.
