Silvio Zavala, Researcher, Hispanic American Section.


Zavala, Silvio was born on February 7, 1909 in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Son of Arturo Zavala Castillo and Mercedes Vallado García. Disciple of Rafael Altamirano. Studied under Daniel Cosío Villegas.


Preparatory studies at the University of the Southeast, Mérida, Yucatán. Law degree, National School of Law, National Autonomous University, 1931. Doctor of Laws from the Central University of Madrid, 1931-1933, on a fellowship.


Founder and director Revista de Historia de America (review of Pan-American Institute of Geography and History) 1938-1965. President Historical Commission, of Pan-American Institute of Geography and History 1946-1965. Professor, of History of Social Instituts of America, University Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
