In 1953 he was Called to the bar, by Gray’s Inn. In 1972 he became a Queen"s Counsel. In 1982 he became a Bencher
He was President of the West Midlands Young Liberals Federation.
He was Liberal candidate for the Rugby division of Warwickshire at the 1959 General Election.
He was Liberal candidate again for Rugby at the 1964 General Election. He was Liberal candidate for the Twickenham division of Middlesex at the 1966 General Election.
