He was signed as an emergency replacement by the Detroit Tigers during a road trip to Washington in 1903 and played both games of a doubleheader for the Tigers. He appeared for the Cleveland Naps in only three games at the beginning of the 1910 season. He spent most of that season with the minor-league Baltimore Orioles and was named the team"s captain.
He died of complications from typhoid fever in Baltimore before the beginning of the 1911 season.
He was a member of the Philadelphia Athletics from 1906 to 1909, and was the team"s primary shortstop in 1907 and 1908.
