After expulsion from the seminary, emigrated to L’vov. From 1900 member, Revol Ukraine Party, then Ukraine Social-Democratic Party. Returned to Russia and worked as teacher and book-keeper in Kuban’.

After 1917 February Revol founded and headed Ukraine Front Committee, May 1917 elected to All-Ukraine Army Committee of Centr Rada, Kiev. From 14 November 1918 member, Ukraine Directory and chief military ataman, Ukraine People's Republic. From 10 February 1919 chairman, Ukraine Directory. After defeat of Director troops, fled to Warsaw and until his death headed the Ukraine People's Government in exile.
