Stubbings worked as a partner at Theodore Goddard, a London firm of solicitors. The firm was founded in 1902 and was led for much of its early history by its founder, John Theodore Goddard, an English solicitor who first built his practice as a litigator on the London court circuit. By 1917 the firm had moved to Sergeant's Inn in the Temple area of London, and by 1946 it had eight partners.
Theodore Goddard remained a London practice until 2003, when it merged with Addleshaw Booth & Co on 1 May 2003 to form Addleshaw Goddard. Stubbings' partnership belongs to this London period of the firm's history, which was shaped by its corporate, property and litigation work.
