Mcgrigor, Sir Rhoderick was born on April 12, 1893 in York, England. Son of Major General C.R.R. McGrigor and Ada (Bower) Mcgrigor.

Served European war, 1914-1918. Participated Dardanelles Campaign, Battle of Jutland. Captain 4th Destroyer Flotilla, 1936-1938.

Chief staff, Commander in Chief China, 1939. Commander His Majesty’s Ship Renown, Malta convoys. Operations Mediterranean and Atlantic, 1941.

Lord Commissioner Admiralty, assistant chief naval staff, 1941-1943. Commander naval forces at capture Pantellaria, Invasion of Sicily, flag officer Sicily, Taranto, Adriatic, 1943. Commander 1st Cruiser Squadron Home Fleet Aircraft Carriers, Norwegian Coast and Russian convoys, 1944-1945.
