Following the removal of President Thabo Mbeki from the presidency in 2008, Ngonyama announced his resignation from the African National Congress to join the Congress of the People (Committee on Publication Ethics) breakaway party led by Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa. Ngonyama was Spokesperson and Public Secretary of Committee on Publication Ethics. However on the 25th of April 2014 Ngonyama resigned from Committee on Publication Ethics, citing a directionless of the movement.
