Sohrab Fracis was born on the 19th of August, 1958 in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, the son of Homi and Dinsi Fracis.
As a child, Sohrab Fracis studied at the Campion School. He was accepted to the Indian Institute of Technology where he got a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering degree in 1981. Sohrab received a scholarship from the University of Delaware where he earned a Master of Civil Engineering degree in 1983. He also obtained a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from the University of North Florida in 1993.
Sohrab Fracis began his career as an adjunct instructor of English at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville in 1993-2003, and now he is retired from teaching except for his participation as an Instructor for the annual the University of North Florida Writers Conference. He served as a fiction and poetry editor for State Street Review in 1994-2001. For some time Sohrab worked as a proofreader at Kalliope in 1998.
Sohrab Fracis was the final judge and presenter of the Page Edwards Short Fiction Award at the Florida First Coast Writers' Festival in 2004-2008. He also led a summer fiction workshop at the UNF Writers Conference in 2009-12.
Sohrab was a Visiting Writer in Residence at Augsburg College, Minneapolis during 2004. Two years later he was an artist in residence at Escape to Create, Seaside Institute, Florida and at the renowned art colony of Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York in 2007 and once again in 2010. Sohrab Fracis was invited to read at The New School, New York, in 2013 and lead a fiction workshop for students at the Eugene Lang College of Arts. He was also invited to read in Jacksonville's own literary event, Jax by Jax in 2014 and read at Orlando's premier reading series, There Will Be Words in 2015.
Sohrab Homi Fracis became inspired to begin writing when he realized that there was a lack of Indian-American writers. Deciding to do something about this apparent void, he wrote his first book “Ticket to Minto: Stories of India and America” in 2001. His novel “Go Home” has been released by Knut House Press of Lafayette, Louisiana in 2016.

2016Fracis’ family was Parsi, followers of the pre-Christian faith of Zoroastrianism. The Fracis family was seemingly observant but not obligated in their beliefs, as Sohrab said. Fracis is no longer an adherent to the faith. He defines himself as an agnostic in a specialized sense of the word.
