Serious and sometimes fatal consequences can come from the interaction of drugs with other drugs, with foods, and with substances or chemicals used in diagnostic procedures. Active research in this area has increased our understanding of the ways in which interactions and interferences may occur. A brief summary of these kinds of interactions is presented in this chapter. It should be understood that the information given here is far from complete and that further research can be expected to uncover additional mechanisms by which interactions and interferences can occur.
