Entered Money Order Department, General Post Office, London,1860. Transferred Secretary’s Department,18G9. Assisted in transfer of telegraphs to State, 1870.
Took charge of I ntelligence and Special Arrangements Branch, Telegraph Service, 1870-1880.
Proceeded to Cyprus, 1878, with Expeditionary Force under Lieutenant-General Sir Garnet Wolseley to organise a postal and telegraph service in that island. Secretary and Accountant-General, Post Office, Cape Colony, 1880.
Controller, Post Office Savings Bank, 1884. Postmaster-General, 1892.
Postmaster - General British Bechuanalaud, 1893.
