After graduating from Tokyo University Sone was appointed professor of English literature at Ochanomizu Women's University. Tamotsu was known as an authority on the activity of Robert Browning, famous English poet. He has also translated some of the works of Andrew Cecil Bradley and Robert Seymour Bridges.
