After the university Sonoike joined the staff of the Imperial Theater. Later he was transferred to Shochiku's head office where he was placed in charge of the setting department in 1930. After this Kinnaru served for awhile with Toho Film Company. Then he was appointed chief of the business department of Japan Marionette Dramatic Association. Sonoike also served as director of Women's Academy of Fine Arts.
