After his doctoral studies at Oxford University, he made substantial contributions to Indian social science, particularly bridging the gap between research and public action. He is representative for South West Asia for International Academic Association on Planning, Law and Property Rights. During 1997–2000 he experimented Paulo Freire"s Pedagogy of the Oppressed among Bhil adivasis of Akrani tehsil in the Satpura hills of India.
In his own words "he lived at their mercy, surviving on the food provided by the adivasis, shelter provided by the adivasis and wearing their traditional clothes".
This grounded biography of professor inspired hundreds of graduates from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand, where he taught during 2007-2012.
