Soryu studied under Priest Soshin at the Kyuanji Temple, Kyoto.
Soryu founded the Kounji Tern-pie in Yamato Province (Nara Prefecture). He was made chief priest at the Daitokuji Temple, Kyoto, at the command of the Imperial Court, then headed the Myoshinji, Ryiianji and Zuisenji Temples. Masamoto Hosokawa admired him and made him chief priest at the Daishin-in Temple. The Court accorded him the posthumous name of Honnyo Jissho Zenji.
