Sosen Torii was born in 1867 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
Sosen Torii became a disciple of Tomofusa Sasaki and then went to Europe.
Shimbun (newspaper), later was their special correspondent at Peiping, and when Sanzan Ikebe died he became chief editor. Went to Europe again (1911) along with Admiral Togo and General Nogi to attend the Coronation Ceremony of King George V at London.
After World War I sided with Nyozekan Hasegawa and Ikuo Оyama against the Terauchi Cabinet. Left the Asahi Shimbun to found Taisho Nichinichi Shimbun (1917).
