He was born in Ireland, probably in the early years of the seventh century.
Seeking greater solitude in France, St Fiacre received a land grant at Breuil from St. Faro, bishop of Meaux, who helped him erect there a cell, a hospice, and an oratory which later became a monastery. St. Fiacre is the patron saint of gardeners, and his feast is celebrated in Ireland on August 30. His name has become attached to a type of carriage once common in France, presumably because these vehicles were available for hire in the 17th century at the Hotel St. Fiacre in Paris.
