He also represented the South of Scotland in rugby union, and was selected to play against the New Zealand All-Blacks at Netherdale. Cowan died in February 2015 after a short illness. He was 83.
Stan Cowan was the son of the rugby union and rugby league football player James "Jim"/"Jimmy" Cowan, and the older brother of the rugby union and rugby league football player, Ronnie Cowan.
