Volunteered for military service during World War I. In February 1918, joined the Red Army, but soon went with his regiment over to the Whites, and became one of the most persistent of White military leaders. Took part in General Iudenich’s advance on Petrograd in summer 1919. In August 1919, on military service in Estonia.
Later moved to Poland. Organized and led large White partisan detachments in Belorussia. Worked closely with B. Savinkov.
Invaded Soviet territory from Poland, November 1920, but soon retreated. On good terms with the Polish authorities. During World War II, killed on a Warsaw street, probably by a SMERSH agent.
