He built his first violin at the age of 14. His goal is to build instruments which come close to the singing voice, which means focusing on the range from 2000 to 4000 Hz. He received the 2003 Rheingau Musikpreis.
Over 100 CDs featuring his instruments have been released.
Membership
His clients include Frans Helmersson, Leonidas Kavakos, Kim Kashkashian, Bruno Monsaingeon, Christian Tetzlaff, Isabelle van Keulen, Antje Weithaas, the Keller Quartet and members of the Hagen Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet.
