1914 graduate Military Medical Academy.
1918-1923 and 1927-1931 lecturer, 1934-1951 head, chair of Infectious Diseases, Leningrad Health and Hygiene Medical Institute. Also chief physician, Botkin Infectious Clinical Hospital. During World War 2 chief epidemiologist of Leningrad Front.
1945-1952 department head, Military Medical Museum. During his latter years head Chair of Infectious Diseases, Kirov Military Medical Academy, Leningrad.
1924 first to detect presence of mosquito fever in Ccntr Asia. Deliberately infected himself to determine the role of Ornithodorus ticks in the transmission of relapsing typhus. Made an extensive treatment of the clinical aspects and epidemiology of dysentery.
Member, Leningrad Branch, Social of Microbiologists, Epidemiologists and Infectionists. Editor, 2 volume of Opyt Sovetskoy meditsiny v Velikoy Otechestvennoy voyne 1941—1945 (Soviet Medical Experience in the 1941-1945 Great Fatherland War). Wrote some 50 research works.
