After school Dudyshkin entered the St. Petersburg university.
He is the author of many articles. His articles were published from 1845. One of the first was Yakav Grym’s philological observations. Then Stepan became friends with V. M. Maykau. Maykau suggested him working at the magazine «The notes of our country» («Otechestvennye zapiski»). S. Dudyshkin advanced in his career from journalist to editor-in-chief. He cooperated with editorial staff of the “Contemporary” . He held theory of pure art with features of liberal attitude. He also shared Belinskiy’s aesthetic system, because he considered Belinskij a motive power of literature.
