Stepan Provovych was a Voronezh provincial land-surveyor, at the same time he served as a principal of the Public School later the Main Public School in Voronezh. In the 1780s completed several maps of the Voronezh province. Participated in the disengagement of the Voronezh province with adjacent territories and in the delimitation of counties. Also led to the formation of public education in the Voronezh province.
