1927 graduate military acad courses.
Blacksmith by trade; 1906-1909 private, Russian Army. 1909 sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for revol propaganda among soldiers. 1905-1918 Menshevik; fought in World War 1.
1916 for bravery promoted ensign. From 1918 in Red Army. 1919-1920 commanded 242nd Volga Regt on Eastern and Western Fronts.
Distinguished himself during the capture of Chelyabinsk and Minsk. From 1921 head, All-Russian Extraordinary Commission Against Counterrevolution, Sabotage and Speculation Board for Guarding the Siberian Borders. Late 1922 commanded, forces group of Far Eastern Republic People’s Revol Army in capture of Spassk and rout of White Army in the Far East.
1923 headed expeditionary detachment which routed General Pepelyaycv’s White Army units in the Okhotsk—Ayansk area. 1927-1929 div commander. From 1929 corps commander.
