Education
Power's legal education took place at the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he studied for a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws. The university was established in 1911 by an act of the Parliament of Western Australia and was the state's first university. Its main campus is in Crawley, a suburb of Perth.
The university was founded largely through the efforts of Sir John Winthrop Hackett, the proprietor and editor of The West Australian newspaper, who chaired the royal commission that recommended a university for the state. UWA also described itself as the first free university in the British Empire, promoting equal access to tertiary education across social classes. Its founding structure comprised three faculties: Engineering, Science and Arts.
Power was admitted to the bar in Australia in 1985, completing the professional qualification that followed his university law studies.
