Stephen Tindall

Career
Tindall founded The Warehouse in 1982 after 12 years with retailer George Court & Sons as Merchandise Director. In 2009 the Warehouse Group had 86 retail stores in New Zealand with sales of New Zealand$$1.72 billion. In 1998, he was named the Deloitte–New Zealand Management magazine Executive of the Year.
Two universities - AUT and Massey, bestowed honorary doctorates on him in subsequent years.
In 2006, he was awarded the Blake Medal on behalf of the Sir Peter Blake Trust in recognition of his outstanding leadership contributions to New Zealand. In 2015 he was named Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year.
Achievements

He held the position of Managing Director until January 2001, when he became known as the Founder. The New Zealand Herald named him Business Person of the Year for 1997. The year he became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit. In 2007, Tindall was made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of services to business and the community in the Queen"s Birthday Honours List.
