Prior to that, he was the lead television anchor for Comcast SportsNet Houston from 2012-2014 before the network went bankrupt. In that time, Bunin was nominated for four Texas Emmy Awards (including twice for Best Sports Anchor), winning for his groundbreaking interview with Carl Lewis. One of the most versatile and well-liked anchors during his nine-year run at Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, Bunin anchored a variety of shows there, most frequently Outside The Lincolnshire, SportsCenter and College Football Live.
He also hosted Baseball Tonight, NFL Live, Sports Reporters, Entertainment and Sports Programming Network Radio and numerous National Collegiate Athletic Association and pro sports events on Entertainment and Sports Programming Network and ESPN2.
In 2011, Sports Illustrated’s media critic Richard Deitsch called Bunin "one of the most underrated talents in sports journalism." In SI"s 2011 Media Awards, Bunin was declared one of the "Twelve Broadcasters Viewers Deserve More Of In 2012."
Prior to Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, Bunin served as sports anchor/director at five different local news stations: WOTV-television in Battle Creek, Michigan, from 2002-2003, WLAJ-television in Lansing, Michigan, from 2000-2001, KNAZ-television in Flagstaff, Arizona, from 1998-2000, WICZ-television in Binghamton, New York, in 1997 and WTVH-television in Syracuse, New York, in 1995-1996, where he worked alongside future Cable News Network anchor Christopher Lawrence and future American Broadcasting Company anchor David Muir. In 1998, the Arizona Associated Press named him Best television Sportscaster and awarded him Best television Sports Coverage.
Bunin is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1996. While at Syracuse he joined Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity.
During this time he worked at the campus television studio UUTV, now known as CitrusTV. He graduated from Mercer Island High School in 1992.
He is on the Notable Alumni list.
In 2010, Bunin became the first anchor at Entertainment and Sports Programming Network to win the company’s prestigious “Game Ball” award for character. In 2012, he received the President"s Volunteer Service Award from Barack Obama, for his volunteer efforts, primarily with at-risk teens. Also, in 2000 the Michigan Associated Press awarded him Best television Sportscast.
