He gained a Business Studies Certificate at a Technical and Further Education college and worked as an underwriter and in financial services. Georganas has previously worked as a taxi driver. Georganas was a ministerial adviser from 2002 to 2004 for South Australian government minister Jay Weatherill.
Georganas contested Hindmarsh at the 1998 election and the 2001 election before winning it at the 2004 election, defeating Liberal Party of Australia candidate Simon Birmingham and replacing retiring incumbent Christine Gallus.
Georganas voted in support of same-sex marriage in Federal Georganas was defeated by Liberal candidate Matt Williams at the 2013 election from an eight percent two-party swing as his party lost government. Georganas has been preselected as the Australian Labor Party candidate to re-contest Hindmarsh at the next Australian federal election.
Georganas has been involved in numerous community organizations, including as president of his local Lions club, and as a board member of the Adelaide Greek Festival "Glendi".
