Steve Merfeld

After leading the Hampton Pirates to back-to-back National Collegiate Athletic Association tournaments, including a first-round upset of second-seeded Iowa State in 2001, Merfeld was hired as the head coach at Evansville, where he coached until the 2007 season. The shot of Hampton forward David Johnson lifting a jubilant Merfeld in the air after the Pirates" 2001 upset remains a memorable event in National Collegiate Athletic Association history. In December 2009, Merfeld stepped down as an assistant coach at Bradley University.
Merfeld joined Greg McDermott"s staff at Creighton University prior to the 2010-2011 season.
