He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1979 where averaged 16.3 points in his junior year. He was assistant at Northwest before going to coach at East Central where he was 62-32 in three seasons.
His teams reached the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II playoffs in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008 (accounting for all but one of Northwest"s post-season National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II appearances).
