Steven Voien graduated from Katella High School in 1980. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in World Literature from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1984. He also did additional coursework in economics and finance.
Steven Voien worked as a Foreign Service Reporting Officer at the United States Embassy in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire in 1989-1991 and in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1992-1994. He worked as a Director at the Business for Social Responsibility at San Francisco in 1998-2003. In 2003-2006 he was a Vice President for Corporate Social Responsibility at Edelman. Voien held the position of a Vice President for Global Corporate Citizenship at Waggener Edstrom in New York 2007-2008. Since 2008 he is a Principal Consultant and Founder of Voien Consulting and is based at Corte Madera, California.
Steven Voien has published two political-environmental novels (In a High and Lonely Place, HarperCollins; Black Leopard, Knopf) to excellent reviews in the New York Times, Washington Post and People magazine (“Page Turner of the Week”) among others.
