Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the K-4 1000 m event at Barcelona in 1992. Wood won two medals at the International Coach Federation Canoe Sprint World Championships with a silver (K-4 1000 m: 1991) and a bronze (K-2 1000 m: 1986). He was married to Anna Wood, a Dutch-born sprint canoer who won two bronze medals at the Summer Olympics, one for Australia and one for the Netherlands.
