Stewart Ross was born on April 4, 1947, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom. He is the son of Graham and Marjorie Ross.
Ross graduated from Exeter University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. He then obtained his Master of Arts degree from it in 1972 and graduated from Rollins College with a Master of Arts in Teaching in 1979.
Ross also received a certificate in education from Bristol University in 1970.
Ross started his career as a teacher at Trinity College in Sri Lanka in 1965. He worked there for two years. He then went to Exeter University, where he worked as an assistant tutor. In 1972, Ross started working as a lecturer at the University of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. He returned to England two years later, where he held the position of a housemaster at King's School for four years. He then became a lecturer at Rollins College in Florida. He worked there for a decade until he decided to become a full-time writer in 1989. Since 1995, Ross also teaches at the Catholic Institute of Higher Studies in La Roche-sur-Yon, France.
Now, besides writing and teaching, Ross also gives talks, runs workshops, and visits schools. He is an occasional journalist and broadcaster.
