Career
He was a son of Stoddard Martin (1781-1868) of North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, and in a tradition made famous by Horace Greeley"s quote "Go West, young man" took a trail which led him eventually to Madison, Wisconsin, where he built a domicile which was one of the first in the future capital of the state.
