She studied B.Sc Statistics at Karnataka College, Dharwad. She is a trained lawyer having gained Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws from Bombay University.
Career
She has been a journalist for 25 years and was conferred the prestigious for journalism in 2006. The "Padma Awards", announced on the eve of India"s Republic Day, are among the highest civilian awards in the country and are conferred for distinguished service and excellence in various fields.Her name has been associated with Jignesh Shah of NSEL scam and stirred up a controversy on social media. She is well known for her numerous investigative reports on Indian Stock Markets, Trading, Consumer Protection, Infrastructure Projects and Budgets.
She gained fame, notably for breaking the securities scam in 1992 which was India’s biggest financial scandal until then
Sucheta runs MoneyLife Smart Savers Network, a community initiative aimed to educate and collate individual investors to become better at investing. She also runs a popular Cr Helpline to help people, with their financial difficulties, redressal mechanism for Insurance, Mutual fund and other investments.
The need for such a helpline was found, after Ministry of Corporate Affairs terminated financial aid to the helplines, namely, www.investorhelpline.in andwww.watchoutinvestor.com in 2011. lieutenant was discovered that even 15 months before the NSEL scam went public, India"s leading financial journalist Sucheta Dalal knew all major aspects of the fraud.An email dated 8th May 2012 from Sucheta to Jignesh Shah, Anjani Shah etc came in public domain which revealed that Sucheta knew about illegality and lack of safety of NSEL product.
A complaint has been filed with Mumbai police by NSEL Investors" Action Group to investigate Sucheta Dalal"s role.
