Dasgupta joined Communist Party of India in 1936. Dasgupta was born in Barishal on 30 January 1912. His father was a kabiraj.
He attended Banipith School in Barishal.
Later he got admitted in Brojomohun College. In 1936 he passed his Master of Arts examinations from the University of Calcutta.
