Sugaru Chiisakobe was born in 460.
In the sixth year of his reign, Emperor Yuryaku, wishing his consort to keep silkworms, ordered Sugaru to collect silkworms for her. Sugaru, misunderstanding the Imperial command, collected a number of small children and brought them to the Palace. Both silkworms and children were called ко in ancient times. The emperor was amused by his mistake and ordered Sugaru to bring up the children he had collected and gave him the family name of Chiisakobe, or Small Children's House.
