Suju Takano was born on March 3, 1893 in Ibaraki, Japan.
He studied haiku under Kyoshi Takahama (since 1923) and became a representative poet of the Hototogisu school.
Suju Takano was appointed professor at Niigata Medical College to eventually become president. He was professor at Nara University of Medicine.
Is better known as a poet. His style of composing poems brought him into disagreement with Shuoshi Mizuhara and his works were often criticized by Shuoshi because of their trivialism. Yet they were highly regarded for reliability of technique, a main point with poems of the Hototogisu school of poetry. Among his anthologies are Hatsugarasu (The First Crow) and Nobanashu (Collection of Wild Flowers).
