The Doll Ceremony
Hanging scroll by Nishikawa Sukenobu, ca. 1700s.
Sukenobu Nishikawa studied under Eino Kano and Mitsusuke Tosa, masters of the Kano and Tosa schools, respectively.
Sukenobu Nishikawa started painting genre pictures of his own style. Although his ordinary pictures were also good, it was in wood-block prints that he excelled. His prints were mostly for illustrated books, unlike ukiyoe of Edo which were printed individually.
