Life in The Rocks area of Sydney, Australia in the late 1800's is threatening. When Jiffo witnesses the fatal mauling of his parents by a pack of dingoes, the young boy is set up for a life of booze and crime. By day, Jiffo sells newspapers; by night, he is captain of the gang, known as the Push, whose weapons are switchblades, knives, broken bottles and fists. When Jiffo is seen in a street brawl by Tom Riley, the retired heavyweight champion, Tom sees a coming champ inside the unruly larrikin and invites him to join his stable of fighters at the Iron Pot. With Tom's mentoring and training, Jiffo eventually sails for America as the Australian featherweight champ. To match Jiffo's rise out of the no-hope existence, his girl, Flo Berry, surprises everyone with her own transformation.
